Today, August 12, 2018, is Her Majesty Queen Sirikit’s birthday, and also the day that Thais celebrate Mother’s Day. Her Majesty has countless developmental projects under the royal initiative of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit, the Foundation ofor the Promotion of Supplementary Occupations and Related Techniques of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of Thailand, or the SUPPORT Foundation in short, is one not to be overlooked. THAILAND 180º would like to wish Her Majesty a Happy Birthday, and talk about one of Her Majesty’s many projects.
เนื่องในโอกาสมหามงคลเฉลิมพระชนมพรรษา สมเด็จพระนางเจ้าสิริกิติ์ พระบรมราชินีนาถ ๑๒ สิงหาคม ๒๕๕๗ .. หนังสือ THAILAND 180º จึงนำเสนอหนึ่งในพระราชกรณียกิจนานัปการ ด้วยสำนึกในพระมหากรุณาธิคุณที่ทรงมีต่อปวงชนชาวไทย — “ทรงผ้าไทย เสด็จฯ ไปทั่วหล้า”
The Frst Project Under the SUPPORT Foundation
The first project under the SUPPORT Foundation is the Ikat Silk project in Nakhon Phanom. This project came about after one of Her Majesty’s visits to northeastern Thailand, during a major flood. During her visit, she noticed the unique woven patterns of the local women’s silk skirts and began to ask them about the technique. After learning that almost every household in the area had a loom and created this ikat or mudmee silk, she helped organize them and bought all they could produce.
มูลนิธิส่งเสริมศิลปาชีพในสมเด็จพระนางเจ้าสิริกิติ์ พระบรมราชินีนาถ เป็นมูลนิธิที่สมเด็จพระนางเจ้าพระบรมราชินีนาถ ทรงก่อตั้งขึ้นเมื่อวันที่ ๒๑ กรกฎาคม พ.ศ. ๒๕๑๙ เพื่อช่วยเหลือราษฎรที่ยากไร้ในชนบท ซึ่งพระราชดำริในการก่อตั้งมูลนิธิส่งเสริมศิลปาชีพฯ นั้น มีมาตั้งแต่เมื่อครั้งตามเสด็จพระราชดำเนินไปเยี่ยมเยียนราษฎรในชนบทเป็นครั้งแรก เมื่อวันที่ ๒ ธันวาคม พ.ศ. ๒๔๙๘ ในภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือ และ โครงการศิลปาชีพอย่างเป็นทางการโครงการแรก คือ โครการทอผ้าไหมมัดหมี่ จังหวัดนครพนม ทรงสนพระราชหฤทัยในซิ่นไหมมัดหมี่ที่หญิงชาวบ้านนุ่ง เพราะมีความสวยงามแปลกตา จึงทรงเล็งเห็นว่าชาวบ้านมีฝีมือในงานหัตถกรรมอยู่แล้ว จึงมีพระราชดำริส่งเสริมอาชีพให้แก่ชาวบ้านเพื่อได้มีรายได้ทดแทนกรณีที่ผลผลิตทางการเกษตรต้องเสียหายอันเนื่องจากภัยธรรมชาติ เหมาะที่จะเป็นอาชีพเสริมของชาวบ้านเนื่องจากทุกครัว เรือนจะทอใช้กันอยู่ แล้วทรงชักชวนให้ชาวบ้านเริ่มประกอบอาชีพเสริมด้วยการทอผ้าไหมมัดหมี่ และมีพระราชกระแสกับชาวบ้านว่า พระองค์จะทรงใช้ผ้าที่พวกเขาทอ ซึ่งนับได้ว่าพระราชทานกำลังใจให้แก่ชาวบ้านเป็นอย่างมาก และทรงรับซื้อผ้าที่ชาวบ้านทอทุกผืนโดยส่งรวมไป ณ พระตำหนักจิตรลดารโหฐาน เป็นการสนับสนุน ฟื้นฟู และพัฒนาฝีมือการทอในเบื้องต้น
ราชเลขานุการฯ จะจัดตั้งกลุ่มทอผ้าไหมขึ้นตามหมู่บ้านที่ออกปฏิบัติงาน และรับชาวบ้านเข้าเป็นสมาชิก ผู้ทอผ้าไม่เป็นก็ให้ปลูกหม่อนเลี้ยงไหม เพื่อเป็นวัถุดิบแก่ผู้ทอ โครงการนี้จึงได้ขยายออกไปจนทั่วภาคอิสาน และเป็นโครงการส่งเสริมอาชีพที่ทำรายได้ให้แก่ราษฎรอย่างกว้างขวางจนถึงทุก วันนี้
Ikat Silk~ Famous Worldwide
She took the fabric back to the palace and had garments made for the entire Royal Family. She even took some of the fabric abroad and had famous Western designers tailor their own creations with the silk. All of this made the ikat silk famous worldwide and all over Thailand. This project was so successful, it was later organized throughout Isaan.

จากหนังสือวารสารราชบัณฑิตยสถาน ฉบับเฉลิมพระเกียรติ สมเด็จพระนางเจ้าสิริกิติ์ พระบรมราชินีนาถ ในโอกาสทรงเจริญพระชนพรรษา ๗๒ พรรษา ๑๒ สิงหาคม ๒๕๔๗ มีบทความของคุณหญิงทรงสุดา ยอดมณี กล่าวถึงสมเด็จพระนางเจ้าสิริกิติ์ พระบรมราชินีนาถ ทรงผ้าไทยเสด็จฯ ไปทั่วหล้า ไว้ตอนหนึ่งว่า
จากสมัยก่อนที่มีความคิดอยู่ว่า ผ้าไหม โดยเฉพาะผ้าไหมมัดหมี่ ใส่แล้วจะดูแก่ ซึ่งความจริงไม่ได้เป็นอย่างนั้นเลย พระองค์ท่านก็โปรดฯให้ตัดฉลองพระองค์ถวายสมเด็จพระเจ้าลูกเธอฯ ทรงบ้าง ซึ่งปรากฏว่าก็งดงาม ปัจจุบันนี้แม้กระทั่งพระเจ้าหลานเธอฯ ก็ทรง เป็นที่ยอมรับกันว่า ไม่ได้เหมือนอย่างที่คิดเอาไว้ แล้วก็เลยออกมาแพร่หลายมากมายเหมือนอย่างปัจจุบันนี้
พระองค์ท่านทรงสนับสนุนให้เขาทอมากขึ้น เปลี่ยนผืนให้ใหญ่ขึ้น จากนั้นตั้งเป็นมูลนิธิแล้วเอาผ้าที่รับซื้อมาจากชาวบ้านออกเผยแพร่ให้คนรู้จัก ชักชวนให้ช่วยกันสนับสนุนฝีมือชาวบ้าน เป็นที่นิยมมาก สุภาพบุรุษสุภาพสตรีทั้งหลายซื้อมาตัดใส่กัน แล้วก็แพร่หลายออกไปเรื่อยๆ ทรงใช้ช่างไทยในการตัดฉลองพระองค์ นอกเสียจากสมัยที่เสด็จฯ ต่างประเทศ อากาศหนาวต้องใช้เสื้อแบบตะวันตก ก็จะมีช่างชาวต่างประเทศมาช่วยออกแบบบ้าง แล้วอีกประการหนึ่งที่พระองค์ท่านทรงใช้ดีไซเนอร์ต่างประเทศบ้าง นอกจากที่จะให้เขาออกแบบเพื่อให้เหมาะสมกับประเทศนั้นๆ ที่จะเสด็จฯไปแล้ว อีกประการหนึ่งก็คือการที่ทรงให้ดีไซเนอร์ผู้นั้นได้มีโอกาสมาเลือกผ้าไหมไทย แล้วก็เอาไปออกแบบตัดเย็บในห้องเสื้อของเขา ก็นับว่าเป็นการเผยแพร่ผ้าไทยให้ได้มีโอกาสไปอวดโฉมอยู่ที่นั่นให้เป็นที่รู้จักกันมากขึ้น
