Phu Khum Khao Dinosaur Excavation Site at the Sirindhorn Museum, Kalasin
We LOVE dinosaurs! When we heard about a dinosaur park/excavation site in Kalasin, Thailand, we couldn’t wait to photograph it. Kalasin is full of dinosaur statues, as the local people are rightfully proud of their provinces contribution to paleontology. Well, the museum was great, but the park full of life-size dinosaurs was Really something! As usual, it was raining on the day we finally found the site, but the sky was starting to clear in some areas, so we waited it out in the car. Finally, it stopped raining and we managed to get a few photographs before the rain started again. The effect of the rain and the grey sky really added to the photograph, and I think a sunny day may have made the photograph too whimsical for my taste. If you look very close, you’ll see some small dinosaurs holding blue trash cans. I tried to work around those so they wouldn’t spoil the mood, and this limited me to just a few good angles.

!! โว๊ะโห.. ยังไม่ทันถึงพิพิธภัณฑ์เลย เจอไดโน่ทั้งฝูงเดินเล่นอยู่ที่สวนสาธารณะ มีทั้งตัวเล็ก ตัวใหญ่ หลากชนิด บางตัวถือถังขยะด้วย น่ารักจริงๆ ตอนเราเดินทางไปมีฝนลงเป็นละออง ไม่มีแดด อากาศเย็นสบาย เราเดินหามุมถ่ายภาพกัน พอฝนหยุดสักแป๊บนึงก็จัดรัวๆ ก่อนฝนจะเทลงมาอีกรอบ
Here’s the scoop: More than 700 fossilized bones from the Palaeozoic Era were found in this excavation site, making it the largest and best site in the Kingdom. Life-size statues of Phuwiangosaurus Sirindhornae, Siamosaurus Suteethorni, Siamotyrannus Isanensis, and many other early residents, decorate this area.
ในส่วนของพิพิธภัณฑ์สิรินธรนั้น เป็นแหล่งไดโนเสาร์กินพืชที่สมบูรณ์ที่สุดของประเทศไทย โดยพบกระดูกไดโนเสาร์เกือบทั้งตัว มีการจัดแสดงนิทรรศการด้านธรณีวิทยาและซากดึกดำบรรพ์ หุ่นจำลองไดโนเสาร์หลายพันธุ์ โดยใช้เทคโนโลยีประกอบกับการให้ความรู้ที่น่าตื่นตาตื่นใจมาก ทั้งแสง สี บรรยากาศ จัดแสดงอย่างอลังการ เรียกได้ว่าเป็นพิพิธภัณฑ์ที่ทันสมัยและดีที่สุดในอาเซียนเลยทีเดียว .. เปลี่ยนทัศนคติของการไปพิพิธภัณฑ์แบบเดิมๆอย่างสิ้นเชิง!
