ALL ABOARD! This train is bound for palaces, shopping at Tha Pho market, Khmer ruins, monkey madness, and endless fields of sunflowers! Next Stop LOP BURI !!.. Woo-woooooooooo.. Clickety-clack! Clickety-clack! Clickety-clack!
นั่งรถไฟไปชมวังนารายณ์ ช้อปตลาดเช้าท่าโพธิ์ แวะทักทายเพื่อนหน้าศาลพระกาฬ ชมทานตะวันบานที่ลพบุรี … !!โอ้โห-ใครนะช่างคิดวางแพลน …อิอิ เราเอง… ปู๊นปู๊น-ฉึกฉักๆ …ถึงแล้ว!!

We love the train rides to Lop Buri! Time passes quickly, and the ever-changing views out the window make every trip memorable. Lop Buri is very tourist friendly and most of the attractions are within walking distance of each other. If your parents never told you not to eat while walking, the local monkeys will be happy to teach you! Seriously, don’t even carry unwrapped food, or they may take it from you. These primate encounters are all part of the fun. Let’s head to the palace first…
King Narai’s Palace, Phra Narai Ratchaniwet, was built by King Narai the Great, who ruled Ayutthaya from 1656 to 1688. The palace was a place for relaxation, hunting, administering the country’s affairs, and welcoming official visitors. Nowadays, in February, there is an annual festival called The King Narai Festival, within the palace grounds. During this colorful event, the locals dress up in old Thai costumes, display old crafts like fruit carving and weaving, demonstrate traditional sports with swords and sticks, sell traditional food and snacks, and there’s even a light & sound show. We joined in and wore Thai costumes to the festival, and had so much fun, that we now return every year.
พระนารายณ์ราชนิเวศน์ หรือ วังนารายณ์ สร้างขึ้นในปี พ.ศ. ๒๒๐๙ ณ เมืองลพบุรี เพื่อเป็นที่ประทับสมเด็จพระนารายณ์มหาราช ออกว่าราชการ และต้อนรับแขกเมือง ซึ่งปัจจุบันจังหวัดลพบุรีมีงานประจำปีที่ยิ่งใหญ่ในช่วงเดือนกุมภาพันธ์ของทุกปี คือ “งานแผ่นดินสมเด็จพระนารายณ์” ที่จำลองบรรยากาศย้อนกลับไปสู่ความเจริญรุ่งเรืองในสมัยสมเด็จพระนารายณ์มหาราช มีกิจกรรมการแสดงมหรสพทางด้านศิลปวัฒนธรรม การแสดงแสงสีเสียง งานออกร้าน ตลอดทั้งกลางวันและกลางคืน โดยชาวเมืองลพบุรีร่วมใจกันแต่งกายชุดไทยกันทั้งเมือง รวมไปถึงนักท่องเที่ยวและเรา THAILAND 180º ผู้มาร่วมงานด้วย ได้บรรยากาศแบบ “งานในวัง” มากๆ บอกเลยว่าประทับใจมาก ไปมาสามรอบแล้วและยังอยากไปอีก

Let’s take an early morning rickshaw ride to the Tha Pho market, it’s not too far to walk, but it’s nice to support the rickshaw drivers and makes for good photos. The market is busy at this time of day and has many fresh vegetables, meat, already cooked food, and sweets. When we saw this lady selling sun-dried freshwater fish on the corner, she was waving a stick to keep the flies away, and smiling. This charming smile and easy going manner are very typical of Thais in the smaller, rural areas of the country.
เดินเที่ยวทั่ววังแล้ว ตื่นเช้ามานั่งรถสามล้อถีบ ลัดเลาะเลียบเคียงชมวิถีชีวิตของชาวเมืองลพบุรี .. ความจริงนักท่องเที่ยวสามารถเดินเที่ยวเมืองลพบุรีได้เพราะแต่ละสถานที่ตั้งอยู่ไม่ไกลจากกันมากนัก แต่เราอยากสนับสนุนอาชีพขับรถสามล้อถีบซึ่งปัจจุบันค่อยๆ หายไปตามกาลเวลา อยากให้พวกเขามีกำลังใจ มีรายได้ และได้รับการสนับสนุนส่งเสริมจากนักท่องเที่ยวด้วย … ตลาดท่าโพธิ์ยามเช้า มีอาหารการกินทั้งสดและปรุงสำเร็จ คาว-หวานมีให้เลือกหลากหลาย ขอบอกว่าตลาดนี้มีกาละแมและข้าวเหนียวแดงอร่อยมากถึงมากที่สุดอยู่ร้านนึง เดินชมตลาดร้านรวงไปเรื่อยจนถึงโค้งถนนพบคุณป้าขายปลาแดดเดียวทั้งปลาช่อน ปลาดุก ปลานิล ในมือถือไม้โบกไล่แมลง โบกไป-ยิ้มไป-ขายไป เป็นเมืองที่มีเสน่ห์และกลิ่นอายของประวัติศาสตร์ดีเยี่ยมเมืองหนึ่งเลยทีเดียว …

Now it’s time to meet some of my favorite residents of Lop Buri, the monkeys! The monkey family portrait above was made at Phra Prang Sam Yot, which was originally a Hindu shrine, built in the 12 Century. The shrine has three towers which symbolize the Hindu Trinity. Today, the shrine is home to many monkeys and has become a landmark for Lop Buri. Most of my attempts to photograph them went poorly because of the need to get very close to them when using an 8mm fisheye. They’re cute but really wild and I knew that photographing a family was dangerous, as the bites on our guide’s arms and legs attested to. We were chasing them one minute, and running from them the next! We had been doing this for an hour or two before I circled the temple one more time and saw a family “posing”. They somewhat cooperated for a few shots, while their fellow monkeys surrounded us from behind. Luckily our guide dispersed them and we rewarded the family with their current favorite reward food, drinking yogurt.
แวะทักทายเพื่อนที่หน้าศาลพระกาฬและพระปรางค์สามยอด เพื่อนเพียบเลย ซุกซนและน่ารักด้วย … แต่กว่าจะได้ภาพด้านบนนี้ก็ค่อนข้างอันตรายเวลาเข้าใกล้ฝูงลิงเพราะอย่างที่ทราบกันว่าสัตว์ที่มีลูกอ่อนมักจะหวงลูก เด็กที่พาเราเข้าไปบริเวณนั้นยังเคยถูกกัดที่แขนและขามาแล้ว .. ก่อนจะได้ภาพนี้เราเดินหามุมเดินวนไปมารอบพระปรางค์เป็นชั่วโมง จนครอบครัวลิงเหล่านี้เขามานั่งเรียงกันเหมือนกำลังโพสต์ท่าอยากให้ถ่ายรูปเลยกดชัตเตอร์ไปได้ไม่กี่ทีก็มีตัวอื่นๆ มาวนเวียนทำท่าจะกระโดดใส่อยู่ทางด้านหลังเรา เด็กที่ดูแลเข้ามาเลยช่วยกันมันออกไปและพอถ่ายรูปเสร็จเราก็เลยให้รางวัล ด้วยการซื้อของโปรดของเจ้าลิงพวกนี้ให้ทานกันซึ่งก็คือ โยเกิร์ตพร้อมดื่ม กินเป็นซะด้วยนะ แย่งกันใหญ่เลย … ณ บริเวณศาลพระกาฬ และ พระปรางค์สามยอดมีฝูงลิงอาศัยอยู่เป็นจำนวนมาก ซึ่งทั้งนักท่องเที่ยวและชาวเมืองมักจะนำอาหารและผลไม้มาเลี้ยงลิงทำให้ลิงมีความเชื่องและคุ้นเคย แต่เค้าก็มีงานเลี้ยงใหญ่ด้วยนะ โดยจะจัดวันอาทิตย์ สัปดาห์สุดท้ายของเดือนพฤศจิกายนเป็นประจำทุกปี

Sunflower season is from November to February in Lop Buri, when sunflowers are in full bloom, and the fields of gold become a fantastic sight. You may want to rent a car with a driver, and spend some time making photos on your way back to Bangkok. If you see a field of flowers that are old, fear not! Just drive on to the next field, as the farmers plan their planting times to make sure that tourists are happy during the entire season. Vendors also sell honey, sunflower seeds, and tasty sunflower seed cookies.
You could visit Lop Buri as a day trip from Bangkok, but if you’re like us, and you hate to rush, you’ll want to spend a few days here. There’s always something new to see, new food to feast on, and new people to meet!

ลพบุรีอยู่ไม่ไกลจากกรุงเทพ แม้มีวันหยุดแค่เสาร์-อาทิตย์ก็ไปเที่ยวได้ ออกไปสัมผัสแสงแดดให้อาบผิวและสร้างวิตามิน D บ้าง เที่ยวชมฝูงลิงและดอกไม้ให้บรรเทิงใจคลายเครียด แล้วกลับมาทำงานกันต่อ สู้ๆ
