WAT SAKET, BANGKOK – วัดสระเกศ และ ภูเขาทอง กรุงเทพฯ
Wat Saket, which is also known as the Golden Mountain temple, was renovated in the reign of King Rama I and he gave its present name.
The murals in the main prayer hall depict angels and the ten life times of Buddha, as well as the three worlds. (On the wall behind the main Buddha image.) These murals were repainted during the reign of King Rama VII.
วัดสระเกศราชวรมหาวิหาร เป็นพระอารามหลวงชั้นโท ชนิดราชวรมหาวิหาร เป็นวัดโบราณในสมัยอยุธยา เดิมชื่อ วัดสะแก พระบาทสมเด็จพระพุทธยอดฟ้าจุฬาโลกมหาราช โปรดเกล้าฯ ให้ปฏิสังขรณ์และขุดคลองรอบพระอาราม แล้วพระราชทานนามใหม่ว่า “วัดสระเกศ”
จิตรกรรมฝาผนังภายในพระอุโบสถวัดสระเกศนี้เขียนครั้งแรกในสมัยรัชกาลที่ ๓ แล้วทำการปฏิสังขรณ์เขียนใหม่ในสมัยรัชกาลที่ ๗ ที่ฝาผนังด้านใน สองด้านเบื้องล่างเป็นภาพทศชาติ ด้านบนเป็นภาพเทวดาและท้าวจตุโลกบาล ด้านหน้าเป็นภาพมารวิชัย ส่วนด้านหลังพระประธานเป็นภาพไตรภูมิ คือสวรรค์ มนุษย์ และนรก
Monks at the Morning Prayer and Meditation Session
According to reports, 94% of Thai people are Buddhists, and there are almost half a million monks in the Kingdom. If you are up around 6 AM, you’re likely to see monks in their saffron colored robes, walking around areas near their temple for their daily alms rounds. Around 8 AM, they meet in the temple for their daily prayer and meditation session. For monks, prayers are for the happiness of themselves and other beings, and to ask for help on their journey towards enlightenment. It is of secondary importance to meditation, which is the path that leads to the end suffering, according to Buddhist teachings. After a couple hours of chanting, praying and meditation, around 11AM, the monks will eat the food that was collected earlier.

The Golden Mountain at Wat Saket
This Chedi, which sits atop the Golden Mountain, inside of the Wat Saket compound, was completed during the reign of King Rama V. It contains a bone relic of the Buddha, which was brought from India.
