The Charm of Inle Lake, Myanmar – หลงเสน่ห์ทะเลสาบอินเล ~ ရှမ်းပြည်နယ်, အင်းလေးကန်

Myanmar – Shan State has more than 30 ethnic groups on its mountainous areas. Here we found a place like heaven on earth named “Inle Lake”, hidden in the valley of the Shan plateau. We caught a flight from the ancient city of Bagan to Heho airport, then took a road trip through the field, forestry area, up and down the hills for more than an hour. — Are we there yet? — Not quite, but eventually we reached a pier that is the gateway to Inle Lake. Here, there were many boats loaded with tomatoes, and our guide explained that Inle Lake area is the largest producer of tomatoes in Myanmar. Ah! they must grow them on the cool mountainous area. — Doh! ~not on the mountain, BUT in the center area of the Lake. This we have to see!
ความหลากหลายในกลุ่มชนเผ่าของรัฐฉาน ที่มีทั้งไทใหญ่ พม่า ว้า กะเหรี่ยง อินทา คะฉิ่น ฯลฯ และที่นี่มีแดนสวรรค์ของนักเดินทางแห่งหนึ่งนั่นคือ ทะเลสาบอินเล ที่ตั้งท่ามกลางหุบเขาสูงในเมืองตองยี เรานั่งเครื่องบินจากสนามบินยองอู (พุกาม) ถึงสนามบินเฮโฮ และต่อด้วยรถยนต์ขับผ่านไร่-นา-ป่า-และเขาอีกหลายลูกใช้เวลาชั่วโมงกว่าๆ ก็ยังไม่ถึง!! ฮ่า-ฮ่า-ฮ่า…สถานที่สวยๆ มักเข้าถึงยากนิดนึง แต่เราก็มาถึงท่าเรือเมืองยองชเวแล้ว ที่นี่มีเรือขนส่งมะเขือเทศสดๆ มาส่งแล้วคัดเลือกเกรดก่อนส่งต่อไปทั่วเมียนม่าร์ ไกด์บอกว่า อินเลเป็นแหล่งผลิตมะเขือเทศที่ใหญ่ที่สุดในเมียนม่าร์เลยนะ อืม..สงสัยปลูกกันบนเขาอากาศเย็นดี ห๊า!-ไม่ใช่เหรอ..แล้วปลูกที่ไหน ไกด์บอกว่าปลูกกลางทะเลสาบเลย เฮ้ย!..จริงอ่ะ?..ลงเรือๆ ไปๆๆ ต้องไปดูให้เห็นกับตา
Shwe Yan Pyay Monastery
We passed an interesting looking temple on the way to our boat and learned that this was the Shwe Yan Pyay Monastery. It was built a hundred years ago in Shan architecture style with teak wood. Of course, I wanted to see the inside and although our guide seemed a bit impatient at the change of plans, she reluctantly walked with us. Inside, we found a group of senior Shan people having tea and apparently a meeting. We asked them to take a photo before leaving quietly and headed back to the pier. I’m so glad that we insisted on stopping, as the people were friendly and I loved the way they were dressed. You really have to make sure that your guide is flexible, or they may lead you past something that they don’t find interesting.
เดี๋ยวๆๆ — คุณเอ็ดบอกว่าเมื่อกี้เห็นวัดนึงดูแปลกตา อยากไปเก็บภาพก่อน ก็นั่งรถย้อนกลับไปไม่ไกล วัด Shwe Yan Pyay นี้สร้างมานานกว่าร้อยปีแล้ว มีสถาปัตยกรรมอันเป็นเอกลักษณ์แบบไทใหญ่ เราเดินเข้าไปขอถ่ายภาพด้านในซึ่งมีกลุ่มชายสูงวัยล้อมวงกันปรึกษาหารือเรื่องอะไรสักอย่าง แต่ที่น่าสนใจคือการแต่งกายบ่งบอกว่าเป็นชาวไทใหญ่อย่างชัดเจน เสร็จแล้วกลับมาลงเรือมุ่งเข้าสู่ทะเลสาบอินเล
Locals Enjoying Tea in the Shwe Yan Pyay Monastery
Once back at the pier, we boarded a large long-tail boat, that had 6 chairs, umbrellas, and life vests. Its engine emitted a very loud put-put noise, but was was comfortable and the boatman steered it with great agility around the other traffic on the lake. After passing some communities along the canal, a beautiful panoramic view appeared. We saw one of the famous leg-rowing man and headed over to get his photo, moving closer and closer, as I tried to fill the frame with his image, creating a forced perspective.
เรือที่ให้บริการเป็นเรือหางยาวขนาดใหญ่ มีเก้าอี้ ร่ม และเสื้อชูชีพเตรียมไว้พร้อมเพื่อความอำนวยความสะดวกแก่นักท่องเที่ยว อีกทั้งยังจำกัดจำนวนผู้โดยสารเพียง ๖ คนต่อลำเพื่อความปลอดภัย พอเริ่มเข้าสู่ตัวทะเลสาบ ขุ่นพระ! นี่เป็นเวลาบ่ายแก่ๆ แต่ที่นี่แสงยังดี วิวก็สวยสมกับเป็นสวรรค์ของนักเดินทางจริงๆ ไกด์ยิ้มแล้วบอกว่ายังมีที่สวยกว่านี้ พรุ่งนี้เช้าจะพาไป โอยยย…ณ ตอนนี้ กดชัตเตอร์รัวๆ เพราะมีชนพื้นเมืองพายเรือด้วยเท้าอยู่แถวนี้พอดี พวกเขาคือชาวอินทา (Intha) ที่ทำเกษตรและประมงในแบบที่ไม่เหมือนใคร
Intha Leg Rowing Man
The Intha people are the Lake dwellers who use a unique method of leg rowing. It is very practical since they can spot fish easier by standing and it leaves their hands free for casting the nets and fish traps. The scenery changed again, and we were surrounded by man-made island floats of matted organic material. These are anchored in the lake and can provide up to 15 years of fertile farm “land” before it is recycled and a new island is fabricated. Tomatoes and other crops are grown on these using age-old hydroponic methods. The whole concept is quite clever, if not mind-blowing! In addition to fishing and farming, the people of Inle Lake engage in many cottage industries such as weaving, cheroot rolling, paper making, and umbrella manufacturing, to name just a few, which we’ll show in future blogs.
ชาวอินทา (Intha) อาศัยอยู่มานานนับร้อยปี โดยใช้ชีวิตอยู่ท่ามกลางขุนเขาและผืนน้ำ ทำเกษตรกรรมบนเกาะวัชพืชที่พวกเขาสร้างขึ้นมาเอง และยังทำประมงอันมีเอกลักษณ์ไม่เหมือนใครในการพายเรือด้วยเท้า และเก็บวัชพืชจากในทะเลสาบด้วยเท้าเพื่อมาทำปุ๋ยบนเกาะวัชพืชนั้นเอง เรียกว่าเป็น “แปลงผักลอยน้ำ” เลยก็ว่าได้ ผักสดๆ อย่างมะเขือเทศ มะเขือเปาะ และพริก จากสวนผักลอยน้ำนี้ถูกส่งไปขายที่ทั้งในตลาดท้องถิ่นและทั่วเมียนม่าร์ เป็นผักปลอดสาร สด ใหม่ทุกวัน … นอกจากนี้ แต่ละหมู่บ้านน้อยๆ ที่อยู่กลางทะเลสาบ ยังประกอบอาชีพทอผ้า, มวนบุหรี่, ทำกระดาษสา, ทำร่ม, ต่อเรือ, เครื่องเงิน และอื่นๆ เพื่อซื้อ-ขาย-แลกเปลี่ยนกัน
Sunset on Inle Lake
Travel on Inle Lake becomes very surreal in the evening, as the water on the lake becomes calm and mirrors the sky. I quickly filled up two cards in my camera, as the sun slowly set. Everywhere we looked we were surrounded by stunning beauty, the likes of which I had never seen!— Next blog, we will explore the temples on Inle lake.

Fleeing from angry water buffaloes, slapping huge mosquitoes, watching exotic festivals and religious rituals, gorging on delicious spicy food, applying aloe vera cream to sunburned skin, wading through rice paddies, getting drenched to the bone by heavy monsoon rains, and gawking at breath-taking scenery; made it a journey of epic proportions! The result is the book, THAILAND 180º. Later, they traveled extensively through Myanmar, Malaysia, and India, gathering a massive collection of 180º photos. They currently live in Chiang Mai where they continue to blog and are now working on a CHIANG MAI 180º book.
