Vesakha Puja or The Day of Vesak is celebrated on the day of the full moon in May on the Gregorian calendar. As Buddhism spread from India, it was absorbed into many cultures all around the globe and is celebrated in different ways throughout the world. In the Theravada branch of Buddhism, it commemorates the birth, his attainment of enlightenment (nirvāna), and the passing of Gautama Buddha.
“วิสาขบูชา” หรือ การบูชาในวันเพ็ญเดือน ๖ แต่ละประเทศที่มีผู้นับถือศาสนาพุทธต่างมีกำหนดวัน-เวลา-ศาสนกิจต่างกันไป ซึ่งวันวิสาขบูชาของพระพุทธศาสนาที่นับถือกันในประเทศศรีลังกา, เนปาล, อินเดีย, ไทย และอีกหลายประเทศ มีเรื่องน่าอัศจรรย์เกี่ยวกับพระสัมมาสัมพุทธเจ้า ทั้งที่มีช่วงระยะเวลาห่างกันนับหลายสิบปีแต่เหตุการณ์น่าอัศจจรย์นั้นล้วนเกิดขึ้นในวันเพ็ญเดือน ๖ คือ เป็นวันคล้ายวันประสูติ, วันตรัสรู้, และวันเสด็จดับขันธปรินิพพานของพระพุทธองค์

Vesak Day
The exact date of Vesak varies in each country, usually during the month of May or in June during a leap year. In 1999, the United Nations resolved to internationally observe the day of Vesak at its headquarters and offices. http://www.un.org/en/ga/search/view_doc.asp?symbol=A/RES/54/115
The above photo shows the mural of the brief life of the Buddha on the domed ceiling at Wat Tham Saeng Phet, in the province of Amnat Charoen. Most of the temples in Thailand, as well as Thai temples outside of the Kingdom, are adorned with murals of Jatakas (the story of the Buddha’s life before his visit to Earth), the life of the Buddha while on Earth, and other Buddhist artwork within the temple compounds.
ทั้งนี้ ไม่ว่าวันวิสาขบูชาจะอิงตามปฏิทินสากล (Gregorian Calendar), จันทรคติจีน, จันทรคติฮินดู, หรือจันทรคติไทย ก็ล้วนตรงกันในเดือนพฤษภาคม จะต่างกันก็เพียงวันที่ ดังนั้น องค์การสหประชาชาติ (United Nations) รับทราบและตระหนักว่าในวันเพ็ญเดือนพฤษภาคมของทุกปี ที่เรียกว่า วันวิสาขบูชา เป็นวันสำคัญยิ่งของพุทธศาสนา อันเป็นวันระลึกถึงเหตุการณ์ทั้งสาม คือ วันประสูติ, ตรัสรู้, และเสด็จดับขันธปรินิพพานของพระสัมมาสัมพุทธเจ้า และเห็นความสำคัญของพุทธศาสนาอันเป็นหนึ่งในศาสนาที่เก่าแก่ที่สุดของโลกมากกว่า ๒,๕๐๐ ปีและยังมีส่วนสร้างเสริมจิตวิญญาณของมวลมนุษยชาติ (http://www.un.org/en/ga/search/view_doc.asp?symbol=A/RES/54/115) จึงได้กำหนดให้เป็นวันสำคัญของโลก หรือ วันสำคัญสากลนานาชาติ (International Day) ดังนั้น บล็อกเราจึงใช้คำสะกดภาษาอังกฤษตามแบบสากลว่า The Day of Vesak

Activities on Vesak Day
On the Vesakha Day, Thais do merit making such as giving food to monks, listening to Dhamma teaching, and meditating. In the evening, each temple in Thailand holds a candlelight procession called a wian tian (wian means circle; tian means candle). Thais hold flowers, incense, and a lighted candle, joining the monks as they circumambulate in a clockwise direction, three times around the Uposatha Hall. This procession is for each of the three Jewels of Theravada Buddism, namely the Buddha, the Dharma, and the Sangha.
ในวันวิสาขบูชานี้ ชาวพุทธทั่วโลกได้ร่วมน้อมรำลึกถึงองค์พระสัมมาสัมพุทธเจ้า, ตักบาตร, ทำบุญ-ทำทาน, ฟังพระธรรมเทศนา, รักษาศีล, ปฏิบัติธรรม, น้อมนำคำสอนของพระพุทธองค์ไปปฏิบัติในชีวิตประจำวัน รวมถึงพิธีเวียนเทียน หรือ เวียนประทักษิณาวัตร เป็นการแสดงความบูชาต่อพระรัตนตรัยอันมีมาตั้งแต่โบราณ และหลังจากเสร็จพิธีเวียนเทียนแล้วควรช่วยกันเก็บกวาดทำความสะอาดบริเวณศาสนสถานให้เรียบร้อย ก่อนแยกย้ายกลับบ้านด้วยความสงบอิ่มเอมใจ

The result is the book, THAILAND 180º. Later, they traveled extensively through Myanmar, Malaysia, and India, gathering a massive collection of 180º photos. They currently live in Chiang Mai where they continue to blog and are now working on a CHIANG MAI 180º book.
