In the blog of “7 Unique Temples in Thailand”, we talked about it would be nice if the Thai tour buses had airbrush designs painted in Thai style instead of gaudy anime or Disney characters, such as something from the Thai epic, the Ramakian for example, and we finally found some!! Seeing this bus made me want to hop on and travel around Thailand. In the painting on this huge bus, Hanuman yawns the sun, moon and stars out of his mouth to prove that he is the father of Matchanu, a young monkey that has a fish tail.

จากบล็อก “๗ วัดสวยแปลกงามตาในประเทศไทย” ที่กล่าวถึงโบสถ์สเตนเลส วัดหัวสวน จังหวัดฉะเชิงเทรา ใช้เทคนิคพ่นสี (air brush) เขียนภาพทศชาติชาดก “..ถ้ารถบัสนำเที่ยวส่วนใหญ่ที่เป็นลายการ์ตูนเปลี่ยนมาเป็นลายไทยหรือลายสัตว์ในวรรณคดีไทยน่าจะดีต่อการท่องเที่ยวไม่น้อยเลย” .. คราวนี้เรานำภาพของรถบัสนำเที่ยวมาให้ชม ดูสิ ภาพหนุมานหาวเป็นดาวเดือน งดงามขนาดไหน ลองนึกถึงถ้าเราเป็นนักท่องเที่ยวที่มาประเทศไทยแล้วได้ยินคำว่า “สวัสดีค่ะ…WELCOME TO THAILAND!” แล้วเชิญเราขึ้นรถคันนี้ เราจะรู้สึกประทับใจสุดๆ อยากนั่งคันนี้เที่ยวทั่วไทยให้อะเมซิ่งไทยแลนด์ไปเลย

On the back of this bus is a scene of Hanuman fighting with a creature who he later finds out is his son, from a mermaid wife who is one of Ravana’s daughters. When I looked out the window as our van passed this bus, I knew there must be an awesome story behind it…
Here it is: Hanuman had mated with the golden mermaid who was the off-spring of his arch-rival Ravana. When Hanuman went to the underworld he met up with Matchanu and fought, they fought and fought but no one was able to get the upper hand, when they took a break from fighting, Hanuman realized it was his son from his fling with the mermaid and was given passage to the rest of the underworld.

THE CYCLE RICKSHAW

The cycle rickshaw in Thailand has been developed from the rickshaw pulled by a person on foot. In 1933, a type of tricycle to carry a passenger was created in Siam and was used in many cities of Siam. Although today they are outlawed in Bangkok, you will find them in many provinces around Thailand like Nonthaburi, Lopburi, Ayutthaya, Ubon Ratchathani, Nan, Chiang Mai.

These rickshaws are a perfect way to tour a Thai city early on a Sunday morning. The ride is quiet, eco-friendly, and benefits tourism and the conservation of ancient landmarks. In the photo above, a woman wais a famous landmark in Chiang Mai, Chedi Kew.
รถสามล้อ มีวิวัฒนาการมาจากรถจักรยานสองล้อ โดยแรกที่มีรถจักรยาน เป็นรถจักรยานสองล้อประเภทที่ล้อหน้าสูงและล้อหลังเล็ก ต่อมาเปลี่ยนรูปเป็นสองล้อเหมือนจักรยานในปัจจุบัน และเมื่อแพร่หลายไปทั่วกรุงเทพฯ และหัวเมืองต่างๆ ก็มีผู้คิดประดิษฐ์ดัดแปลงรถจักยานสองล้อ เป็นรถจักยานสามล้อ เพื่อประโยชน์ในการใช้สอย ผู้เป็นต้นคิดประดิษฐ์สามล้อไทยขึ้น ก็คือ นาวาอากาศเอกเลื่อน พงษ์โสภณ ประดิษฐ์สามล้อไทยคันแรกขึ้นสำเร็จเมื่อปี พ.ศ. ๒๔๗๖ แต่ก็ไม่ได้มีลักษณะเหมือนรถสามล้อในทุกวันนี้นะคะ คือจะเหมือนกับรถสามล้อพ่วงข้างมากกว่า และไม่มีประทุนกันแดดกันฝน ซึ่งนาวาอากาศเอกเลื่อนก็พยายามดัดแปลงรูปร่างลักษณะของรถสามล้อไทยจนมีลักษณะเหมือนในปัจจุบัน แต่คงจะไม่ใช่ทางเลือกในการเที่ยวชมกรุงเทพฯ เพราะมีกฎหมายห้ามมิให้ขับขี่สามล้อบนถนนในกรุงเทพฯ ในขณะที่จังหวัดนนทบุรี, ลพบุรี, อยุธยา, อุบลราชธานี, น่าน, เชียงใหม่ และอีกหลายจังหวัดยังมีให้บริการ แม้จะไม่ได้รับความนิยมมากนัก แต่เป็นพาหนะที่เป็นมิตรกับสิ่งแวดล้อม ประหยัดพลังงาน ลดโลกร้อน ลดมลพิษทางอากาศและเสียง และยังเป็นการส่งเสริมให้ผู้ปั่นจักรยานสามล้อถีบมีรายได้ ยิ่งกว่านั้นรถสามล้อถีบนี่แหละ ช่วยส่งเสริมการท่องเที่ยวเชิงอนุรักษ์ และนักท่องเที่ยวก็ได้ชื่นชมวิถีชีวิตตลอดสองข้างทางได้เป็นอย่างดี
THE SKYLAB

“Skylab” is a nickname of an auto rickshaw in Esaan, that is famous among the locals and tourists alike. It is the brainchild of Udon Thani based Khun Atipong who was the founder of Atipong Motor. Its nickname came about when the news of the Skylab by Nasa was on front page everywhere at the time of this vehicle was created. The Skylab auto rickshaw has been adapted to suit the various local needs such as logistics, mobile restaurants, shuttles at hotels and resorts, as well transporting tourists for sightseeing. It’s basically rural Thailand’s answer to the Tuk-Tuk found in Bangkok. Every time I see one, I dream of owning one like many other Westerners, but alas, they are not yet legal in Chiang Mai, my current home.
สามล้อเครื่องแบบหนึ่งที่เรียกกันว่า “สกายแล็ป” เป็นที่นิยมมากในแถบภาคอีสานเพราะสามารถใช้บรรทุกสิ่งของและรับ-ส่งผู้โดยสารได้มากขึ้น สกายแล็ปมีถิ่นกำเนิดที่จังหวัดอุดรธานี โดยคุณอธิพงษ์ โอภาสเกียรติกุล เป็นผู้ประดิษฐ์สำเร็จเป็นรายแรก ซึ่งเป็นในช่วงเดียวกับองค์การนาซา (Nasa) ของสหรัฐอเมริกาส่งสถานีอวกาศสกายแล็บ (skylab) ขึ้นไปในวงโคจรของโลกและเป็นข่าวโด่งดังในขณะนั้น จึงกลายเป็นชื่อเล่นที่คนอุดรเรียกกันติดปาก ปัจจุบันรถสกายแล็ปได้ถูกปรับปรุงจนถึงรุ่นล่าสุดที่มีเกียร์ถอยหลัง และพัฒนาให้มีความหลากหลายเพื่อให้เหมาะกับประโยชน์ใช้สอยทางการขนส่ง, การพาณิชย์, และการท่องเที่ยว จนเป็นที่นิยมกันในภาคอีสานและเป็นที่ชื่นชอบของนักท่องเที่ยวชาวต่างชาติไม่แพ้รถตุ๊กตุ๊กในกรุงเทพมหานครเลยทีเดียว

THE TUK-TUK

The Tuk-Tuk, which has become a symbol of Thailand and Bangkok tourism, is now a famous mode of transportation known all over the world. So much so that the 2015 Miss Thailand Universe, Aniporn “Nat” Chalermburanawong donned a Tuk-Tuk inspired costume at the world pageant and took first place in the National Costume category. Also known as a “Sam-Lor” or auto rickshaw, it is a widely used form of urban transportation in Bangkok and other Thai cities. There are no meters and trip costs are negotiated in advance. The first 30 Tuk-Tuks came from Japan to Thailand in 1960. These are noisy, smoking beasts that make every trip memorable. Nowadays, Thailand imports a second-hand engine while the structure and parts are made in Thailand by hand. Bangkok and surrounding suburbs (Bangkok Metropolitan Region) have around 9,000 tuk-tuks (Info of 2016, 1st quarter). They are limited in number and forced to use NGV to control the noise and smoke to some degree. Lately, we’ve found many tuk-tuks in Chiang Mai that make very little noise and less smoke… As the drivers say, “Okay Tuk-tuk Let’ go!”
รถตุ๊กตุ๊ก หรือ รถสามล้อเครื่อง แทบจะเรียกได้ว่าเป็นสัญลักษณ์อย่างหนึ่งของการท่องเที่ยวกรุงเทพมหานครและประเทศไทยอันเป็นรู้จักกันทั่วโลก เริ่มนำเข้ามาจากประเทศญี่ปุ่นเมื่อ พ.ศ. ๒๕๐๓ นำมาดัดแปลงเพื่อใช้ขนส่งผู้โดยสารและสัมภาระ ปัจจุบันผู้ผลิตรถตุ๊กตุ๊กนำเข้าเครื่องยนต์มือสองมาขัดสีฉวีวรรณ ในขณะที่โครงสร้างและส่วนประกอบต่างๆ ของรถตุ๊กตุ๊กทั้งหมดผลิตเองโดยฝืมือคนไทย เรียกได้ว่าเป็นงานแฮนด์เมดของตุ๊กตุ๊กไทยแลนด์จริงๆ รถตุ๊กตุ๊กจึงกลายเป็นยานพาหนะที่เป็นเอกลักษณ์ช่วยส่งเสริมภาพลักษณ์การท่องเที่ยวให้กับประเทศไทย ปัจจุบันมีรถตุ๊กตุ๊กกว่า ๙,๐๐๐ คันเฉพาะในเขตกรุงเทพมหานครและปริมณฑล และกำลังถูกจำกัดจำนวนเพื่อไม่ไห้เกินความต้องการ อีกทั้งยังมีการควบคุมให้ใช้พลังงานสะอาดและพลังงานทดแทนด้วยการกำหนดคุณสมบัติให้รถทุกคันต้องใช้ก๊าซเอ็นจีวี ซึ่งเรารอดูกันต่อไปว่าตุ๊กตุ๊กไทยแลนด์จะพัฒนาก้าวหน้าไปได้อีกมากน้อยเพียงใด …แต่ที่แน่ๆ ตอนนี้ตุ๊กตุ๊กในเมืองเชียงใหม่ เสียงไม่ดัง รถไม่มีควันดำเลยค่ะ … ว่าแล้วโดดขึ้นตุ๊กตุ๊กกันเลย!
