Thai-Indian Fun Fair 2019

The Thai-Indian Fun Fair 2019 organized by Indian Social Club of Thailand, Under the Patronage of the Embassy of India that was held this past Saturday lived up to its name! At last year’s Thai Indian Fun Fair we exhibited our photographs and were so busy that we didn’t get a chance to walk around and take in the festivities. This year it was kind of nice just to walk around and take photos just for the heck of it.

The fair was held on the beautiful campus grounds of Srinakharinwirot University, and you couldn’t have asked for a better day. I was framing up a shot of the wonderous blue sky and the surrounding skyscrapers of Bangkok when a clown on stilts came by to complete the photo. Crazy for fisheye photos of clowns on stilts? Here’s another one from the 2018 Nai Lert Flower and Garden Art Fair.

Ms. Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul and Mr. Susheel Kumar Saraff, President VHP Thailand, you’ve been 180ed!

(Sorry but that headline made me ROTF) Next, I spotted Ms. Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, former Minister of Tourism and Sports; and Mr. Susheel Kumar Saraff, President of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad Association of Thailand. A crowd of reporters surrounded them, so I held back and waited for a break in the action to introduce myself and take a photo. Ms. Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul brought many innovations to Thailand’s tourism while serving as the Minister of Tourism and Sports and she brings a touch of class to any event she attends. When the moment came I ran up and blurted out that I’m George from 180books ~Can I photograph You? Mr. Saraff was giving me a warm welcome saying that I came to all their events and Ms. Wattanavrangkul had her hand in the air to let her new henna tattoo dry as I snapped two quick photos. Honestly, I wish I had slowed down a bit and allowed them to get posed, but I saw them getting ready for a presentation, and I didn’t want to be a pest.

Hey Mr. Photographer, Look Out!

As I was reviewing my paparazzi portrait of two of the fair’s most honored guest’s, both chiding myself and secretly enjoying the spontaneous NOW moment that I’d just captured, I saw a giant plastic bubble heading my way.

I looked behind me and saw inflatable bowling pins and jumped out of the way. I stuck the camera inside the plastic bubble and made my favorite photo of the day.

Let’s Grab a Bite

The show was almost ready to start, so it was time to grab something to eat. I love Indian food and cook it at home a few nights a week. We were excited to sample some of the food. I chose the Masala Pav, and its taste reminded me of the excellent street food in Mumbai. Fon had momos which she rated two thumbs up.

Hurry, Hurry, the Show is About to Begin!

I didn’t want to miss seeing Ambassador Suchitra Durai, India’s new Ambassador to Thailand and hear her speech, but resisted the impulse to go photograph her. Another time. In fact, I decided not to run around taking photos of the excellent stage show since I knew the Indian Social Club has its own talented photographers. Here are their photos: https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipPlEm0RUW_NL8-pkh786N5WBTfRsR8GD1qbWJSl0A9OPIJEX29tm-yI1U7FVgbvcg?key=QkhkOTBKblBJQWI1VVpXU3M0bE0xa3NOaXpTVkxB

The show was even bigger than last year with various acts including great dancers from the northeastern area of India and a fashion show.

Just a Couple More…

Inspired by Ms.Wattanavrangkul’s Henna tattoo, Fon decided to get one of her own. The artist did a great job, and I will add her name and biz phone here after I find that info.

I don’t take selfies very often and wouldn’t you know that just as I was making one, I was photobombed by what appears to be a Bollywood actress?! (Laughing)

If you missed the fun, don’t despair. I’m sure with the overwhelming success of this year’s Thai Indian Funfair that there will be an even bigger and better one next year to look forward to!
