“Bagan is the Birthplace of Myanmar”, -that’s what the billboard at the airport says. Formerly known as Pagan, this ancient city was at its peak, between the 11th to 13th Century. During this time, the city flourished and was a cosmopolitan center for education and religion, which attracted students and pilgrims from all over Asia. Before repeated attacks from the Mongols led to its collapse in 1287, over 10,000 Buddhist temples, pagodas and monasteries dotted the kingdom. About 2,200 of these have survived to present time and often they appear to surround you. How did I find this location? It wasn’t easy! On our second trip to Bagan, I already had this shot in my mind, but it was hard to find the right chedi arrangement to frame the picture this way. Luckily we had booked a hot air balloon ride, and from that vantage point, I was able to find this location and describe it to our guide. Well, sort of. It took most of the next day to find this spot, but once I have a photo in my head, I have to have it.

The result is the book, THAILAND 180º. Later, they traveled extensively through Myanmar, Malaysia, and India, gathering a massive collection of 180º photos. They currently live in Chiang Mai where they continue to blog and are now working on a CHIANG MAI 180º book.
